WHO'S WHO in the CAST
DONNIE RAY ALBERT (Porgy) is a Louisiana-born graduate of Louisiana State and Southern Methodist Universities. In the Spring of 1975, he was the Southwest regional winner of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions. Last summer he appeared with the Houston Grand Opera as Parson Alltalk in Joplin's Treemonisha, before joining the Wolf Trap Company for his second apprenticeship. In the fall of 1975 he sang the role of Sparafucile in Rigoletto with the National Symphony Orchestra. He has just concluded a season as resident artist with the Southern Opera Theatre in Memphis. During April he returned to Houston Grand Opera as Jake Wallace in Girl of the Golden West.
ABRAHAM LIND-OQUENDO (Porgy), was born in New York and received a Bachelor and Master degree from the Manhattan School of Music. He is a former member of both the Bremen and Israel National Operas and appeared with Puerto Rico's first native opera company, Opera '68, during the company's premiere season in 1968. His numerous musical awards include the national Opera Auditions, the Marie Bauer Award from the Liederkranz Society, and Rockefeller and Fullbright grants. Last summer he sang a series of "Porgys" in Europe and appeared with the Hamburg Philharmonic.
ROBERT MOSLEY (Porgy) has sung the role of Porgy with the New York City Opera, in Lisbon and Detroit, and with the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera. Born and educated in Pittsburgh, he is a winner of the Marion Anderson Award, a first place winner of the Metropolitan Opera Regional Auditions, coming in second in the New York finals. A frequent guest artist of the New York Philharmonic, Mr. Mosley has also performed with the American, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Milwaukee Symphonies. Audiences in Denver and Seattle recently witnessed Mr. Mosley's acclaimed Amonasro in Aida and earlier this year he won praise for two Opera South roles: the title role of The Flying Dutchman and Leonce in Bayou Legend.
CLAMMA DALE (Bess), a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, is currently a member of the New York City Opera. She made her debut with the company in September of 1975 as Antonia in The Tales of Hoffmann and performed Giulietta in the same work five days later, causing the "New York Times" to write that "given Miss Dale's high level of vocal and acting assurance so far, it is this listener's guess that she would be stunning in the triple assignment (singing all three of the opera's soprano's roles)." She is a winner of the coveted Naumberg Foundation Award and on May 3, 1976 gave a recital under their auspices at Alice Tully Hall to high critical praise. Versatile beyond the opera and concert stage, she has written articles on black music and musicians for high school children in Boston and was both instructor and performer in a program for prisoners at Rikers Island in New York.
ESTHER HINDS (Bess) made her debut with the New York City Opera as the First Lady in The Magic Flute and last year sang Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, adding another role to a varied and diverse repertoire of over twenty roles. She has sung opera, concerts and recitals throughout the United States, Japan and Korea. She has performed in Spoleto Festival's Homage to Samuel Barber Gala (1975); Washington Cathedral's premiere of Menotti's opera The Egg (1976); and with the
