Nutcracker Grads

Judith Fugate and Peter Boal- New York City Ballet dancers who first appeared onstage as children in The Nutcracker

As anyone who has ever see the New York City Ballet's production of The Nutcracker can attest, the ballet inspires a childlike sense of wonder in young and old alike. While it appeals to the dreamer in all of us, it undoubtedly holds a special promise for the many children who participate each year in this holiday pageant: that they will return to the ballet as adult members of the company. And the ultimate dream for every little girl who has ever appeared in the work is of one day holding court as the Sugar Plum Fairy.

For most of these children, the fantasy will remain just that. Most of the youngsters who take part in The Nutcracker do not go on to careers in ballet. But watch closely.
