2x It was a most interesting part of France we were to go through.  The very places where the Germans made there closest approach to the capital.  From the very start there were troops on the road - before reaching St Denis and again afterwards when we got on the Ecouen road. They had new equipments and except for the fact that it looked very heavy it seemed very businesslike.  We must have passed some 5,000 troops before lunch.  All infantry and all cheerful & healthy.
