Paris side of Chantilly had had Germans up to the lodge but they had not gone to the house.  At Compienge close to this is Mrs Depews hospital.  She has been in the midst of fighting for a long time & on the 27th came to me to help her out of a hole.  That morning her English Red Cross nurses had been notified that they must leave at once, that their position was too dangerous.  This would leave her 6 nurses short, a full hospital and in a serious position. Would I help her.  Of course I wanted to, she seemed very excited and up in the air. Would I come out and see them.  The sound of the cannon was terrific but we got used to it.  She would take me out with her tomorrow, could I let her know about the nurses.  I wanted to promise every thing but I remembered that I must consult Dr Martin.  I got him
