But before this we went through Doullens which was simply full of troops and guns.

From Doullens we went to Frevent & from there to Hesdin.  One met so many troops [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] one wondered who could be left to fight.  From Hesdin to Fruges

Doullens is only 30 K. from Arras which is occupied by the Germans.

Fruges might have been a Headquarters judging from the looks of the place.  From there to St Omer was only 27 or so K.  But it was dark when we got [[strikethrough]] there [[/strikethrough]] ^[[to the English Headquarters]] and I must say I was a good deal thrilled at actually being in the Headquarters of the English army, the place in which Lord Roberts died a few weeks before "within sound of the guns".  What a splendid death to be sure, with his Indian troops around him too, he could not have been so very miserable to die at 82 like that!
