The last 8 K. to Dunkirk I must say my heart beat very fast.  At ten minutes to 8 we drew up in front of the Hotel de l'Arcade.  It is in the big square.  The town is fairly big, of course scarcely lighted at all and full of English officers.  The café of the Hotel looked very gay.  Mr Bacon went in to ask for rooms.  Not a single one to be had.  We adopted a little boy who then proceeded to take us the round of the town.  He took us to seven Hotels before
