COMMENDATION RIBBON

TO

BENJAMIN O. DAVIS, JR.

Colonel BENJAMIN O. DAVIS, JR. distinguished himself by meritorious service as Commander, 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing, from 12 November 1953 to 18 May 1954. During that period, Colonel DAVIS was confronted with the task of maintaining an effective combat ready unit despite shortages of combat crews and support personnel. His thorough planning enabled the wing to overcome these obstacles and to fulfill its mission. Colonel DAVIS applied highly effective management techniques and instituted new policies at the 51st Maintenance and Supply Group, in Japan. In doing so, he greatly enhanced the effectiveness of all F-86 wings in the Fifth Air Force. Colonel DAVIS materially improved all phases of the wing's administrative and operational procedures through the economical management of personnel and resources. His outstanding leadership and professional skill were instrumental in making his unit a highly trained organization. Through his devotion to the best interests of the military service, Colonel DAVIS reflected great credit upon himself, the Far East Air Forces and the United States Air Force.
