2. International Social Service

a. During this six month period the following adoptions have been completed: one Korean-American, one Japanese-American, and one American. In addition, nine children have been sent to families in the States for adoption. This program has been greatly curtailed in the past six months because visas authorized under the Refugee Relief Act were all allotted by October 1956. The above children received visas under a temporary ruling by the president permitting children to enter the States as parolees to their parents. This was in effect during December and January. At present many families are being processed in anticipation of a new visa act which his now before Congress.

b. The American Join Committee for the adoption of Japanese-American children in cooperation with the International Social Service was dissolved. Formation of a breach of International Social Service for Japan is now in progress. The Air Force Officers Wives Club of Tokyo will be a member of the new organization.

Since most of the volunteer and case work is done at the ISS office, supplies are available for use there.

[[underlined]] Recommendations [[/underlined]]

1. It was thought to recruit new volunteer workers and hold orientation lectures during this period because the work of ISS was greatly curtailed by the expiration of the Refugee Relief Act and because most members of the Air Force Officers Wives Club of Tokyo were uninterested because of the coming move to Hawaii, or at best, could work only a short period. It is recommended that as soon as the membership of this Club becomes more stable the above volunteer work be continued and enlarged.

2. It is recommended that a great effort be made to interest the new members of the Air Force Officers Wives Club of Tokyo in this program and in giving generous monetary support.
