FEAF Pair Win Stars

TOKYO (FEAF)—Two U.S. Air Force colonels in FEAF Hq. were promoted to the temporary rank of brigadier general Wednesday.

Promoted by directive of President Dwight D. Eisenhower were Brig. Gen. Arthur J. Pierce, FEAF chief of staff, and Brig. Gen. Benjamin O. Davis Jr., FEAF director of operations and training.

Davis, son of the first Negro to become an Army general, is the first Negro promoted to that rank in the Air Force.

Pierce arrived in Japan in August, 1953, and was formerly assistant for programming, FEAF deputy for operations.
