First Negro General

WASHINGTON, Oct. 27.—(INS)—Col. Benjamin Oliver Davis Jr., son of the only Negro ever to attain the rank of General in the Army, was appointed today as the first Negro General in the Air Force.

The younger Davis was promoted by President Eisenhower to the temporary rank of Brigadier General, the same held by his father on retirement.
