Brigadier General B. O Davis, Jr.
Hq, Far East Air Forces

Dear General:

I saw the word of your promotion in this morning's Washington Post. May I extend my heartiest congratulations for the well deserved recognition. All of us in the 51st thought it should have come much sooner.

Know you and Mrs. Davis are enjoying Tokyo. My family enjoys Washington (our house is in North Alexandria) now that my wife is recovered from her operation just after my return. I don't know what I did to deserve getting into personnel and particularly the Reenlistment Program (the Air Force's No. 1 problem per the Chief). My boss is Dick Carmichael, your classmate, and he is indeed an outstanding officer.

Please give my regards to Bowles and any other of the old friends that you see. Again my sincere congratulations and best wishes for continued success. It was truly a pleasure to have worked for you in the 51st.

Cordially yours,
