It is a Corn-Dance and realy means a prayer for rain.

Yesterday their prayer was answered. A black cloud came over the mountain and they had a fine shower.

I saw another shower at the same time about 12 miles away.

Overhead the sky was blue and we did not feel a drop in Taos, but I could see the whole cloud in the South.

Its top was like a white mountain with lightning pulsing in it. It was flat and black at the bottom with the rain falling like streaming hair.

I could see the lightning strike the plain many times. It was so bright that it made me jump back, but when I waited for the thunder it was long in coming & I could tell how many miles away it was. The lightning looked like ribons of melted iron, white hot. When they dove
