{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
But there was a

[00:02:09]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
There was some tension between the wind tunnel boss and my boss. A fight about who controls the design. [[laughs]]

[00:02:18]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
Really? Between [[crosstalk]] uhh

{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
Yes. [[crosstalk]]

[00:02:21]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
Between [[crosstalk]] Hermann and

{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
So, yes. [[crosstalk]]

[00:02:24]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
and uhh

{SPEAKER name="Werner Karl Dahm "}
Roth

{SPEAKER name="Michael Neufeld"}
Roth?

[00:02:25]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
Yeah.

[00:02:27]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
Uhh was there serious argument over that issue or was it just, just underlying tension?

[00:02:33]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
I have never heard any arguments between them. I have never really seen them together. But I know that Hermann had given the order not to give me data.

[[sirens in background]]

[00:02:49]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
[[laughs]]

[00:02:51]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
And I know this from a colleague at the wind tunnel who didn't agree and who gave me data which I used for that initial design.

[00:03:00]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
[[laughs]] Really? So they were assuming that somehow they were going to be the ones who were going to set down the external design of the--?

[00:03:09]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
I think that was the ambition at least of the top men. It was a breakdown of teamwork. [[laughs]]

[00:03:23]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
Was that an isolated incident, do you think, or--?

[00:03:25]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
I think so.

[00:03:27]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
I mean, I don't want to--

[00:03:28]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
[[interrupting]] You see, on the working level, we got along.

[00:03:33]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
I don't want to put you, make, ask you to tell me something that might make you uncomfortable, but I'm just wondering whether, whether Dr. Hermann was difficult that way often with, with what you wanted to do --

[00:03:46]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
[[interrupting]] I have no basis for such a statement because the remark of my colleagues there was the only indication to me there is something going on.

[00:03:55]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
Right. So, ah, you had drawn up the first design of Wasserfall and they had committed to building a couple of, at least a couple of early missiles with the straight-wing design, right?

{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
Yes. Yes.

[00:04:11]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
Do you remember how many launches were made with that?

[00:04:14]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
I don't know. I have never seen a launch.

[00:04:17]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
Really? It's funny that they would, you would never have gone to see the Wasserfall launches. Nope, I haven't met anybody who has seen the Wasserfall launches.

[00:04:29]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
Well these launches were on the so-called Greifswalder Oie, a small island about ten miles off-shore. There wasn't much space. There were only a few people present who manned the what went for a bunker.

[00:04:50]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
Why were they done on the Oie? Was it, do you remember the reason?

[00:04:54]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
They the reason is probably safety. The A5 launches for instance were done out there, all of the A5 launches. Only the V2, or the A4, was launched from the island itself, from--

[00:05:13]
{SPEAKER name="MICHAEL NEUFELD"}
From Usedom.

[00:05:14]
{SPEAKER name="WERNER KARL DAHM"}
From Usedom, yes.
