{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
And, you know in Washington D.C. we have the Kendall School, the demonstration school there, KDES.

[00:42:40]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
And of course, the Model Secondary School for the Deaf is there.

[00:42:44]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
And in Frederick there's the Maryland School for the Deaf and of course another one in Columbia, Maryland.

[00:42:49]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
I think you probably could go and visit if you're interested in knowing more about deafness in the schools.

[00:42:54]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
You could also visit Gallaudet College, they've got a visitor center there and there's guides that'll take you around.

[00:43:00]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
That's a good point. Debbie?

[00:43:03]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
There's no limit to what deaf people can do. As a matter of fact, there this lady on my right is working on her PhD and she's a deaf person herself.

[00:43:15]
[[clapping]]

[00:43:20]
[[SILENCE]]

[00:43:26]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 3"}
How hard is it for a person who does not come from a-- has no deaf people in the family, or friends, who is interested in learning sign language? Or teaching herself.

[00:43:46]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
Well, th-- that's a hard question for the panel [[cross talk]]but we have some teachers--

{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
Well let's see, first thing uh--

[00:43:51]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
Yeah, I'm sorry, uh-- Go ahead, no no no no--

[00:43:57]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
Uh--

[00:43:58]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
We have--

[00:43:58]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
Teaching--

[00:43:58]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
Excuse me-- We have three teachers of sign language on this panel, who will all want to answer that. Let's give them each a turn. [[laughs]]

[00:44:11]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
Shall I be first? Okay, good! [[laughs]]

[00:44:14]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
I'm not a public relations person but I will tell you about-- I do teach sign language at Gallaudet College, um, signing, communication,

[00:44:26]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
Sign language, they have a beginning, 1, 2, 3, 4, and so forth.

[00:44:29]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
They've got training all the way up through interpreters. And uh, that's a good beginning place to start, in the beginners class, in sign language.

[00:44:36]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
Of course, the best, to learn sign language, is through socializing with deaf people, of course.
