{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
You start Mom. [[background laughter]] Okay, I'll start.

[00:16:54]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
When I started having deaf children, it didn't really worry me. I just was glad that the chil-to have a child.

[00:17:06]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
Really I wanted to know if the child was deaf or not. So I had the child tested. Yes, she was deaf.

[00:17:12]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
And, to me, to have a deaf child was no big deal.

[00:17:19]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
But to hearing people, if they have a deaf child, they have to go through a lot of testing and a lot of things that they have to learn about deafness. But to me, it was just nothing.

[00:17:33]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
Thank you. Steffi, do you want to comment?

[00:17:37]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
As I was born, my mother kept telling me, as I get older, she'd tell me stories about what it was like when I was born: taking me for hearing tests, see if I was deaf or not.

[00:17:51]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
And umm, she seems to accept that I was deaf, because she's deaf also.

[00:17:59]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
And already knew what school to put me in, and she was prepared and she wasn't shocked, like wha-how would I- what school would I put her in, and so forth. It was really alright.

[00:18:10]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
I see, thank you. How about the opposite situation?

[00:18:16]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 3"}
Well, umm, I'm the baby of the family. I have 2 older brothers who are hearing so, I guess when I was born, it was just nothing new to my parents to have a hearing child.

[00:18:30]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 3"}
I guess really, I don't know, you'd have to ask my mom that question what her attitude towards having a hearing child was. I think that, they expected it.

[00:18:42]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 3"}
I don't know.

[00:18:43]
{SPEAKER name="Unknown Speaker"}
By then.

[00:18:47]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
Maybe I should stand up. Whoops, sorry.
