VOTED that the Board of Regents nominates Jeannine Smith Clark and Samuel C. Johnson to serve additional terms for the statutory period of six years from the expiration of their current terms and requests that the Congressional members of the Board introduce and support legislation to that effect.

The Committee discussed at length the criteria which might be established informally in considering potential nominees for the two current citizen Regent vacancies. With these criteria as a backdrop, the Committee carefully weighed approximately 35 suggestions received thus far. Impressed with the importance of these two nominations for the future leadership of the Board, the Committee elected to continue collecting nominations and reviewing the qualifications of candidates. It plans to bring recommendations to the Board at its September 18, 1989 meeting.

The meeting of the Nominating Committee was adjourned at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Introducing the following report, Mr. Acheson emphasized that the Committee finds that in a number of respects the growth of the Institution has outstripped certain capabilities of the administrative staff in such areas as accounting and systems, though he felt confident that management's urgent attention to these problems is already having remedial effect.
