indigenous peoples of the Americas and the study of their languages, literature, history, art, and life; and

WHEREAS a national museum on prominent sites in the District of Columbia and the State of New York would provide an unique capability for the collection, research, preservation, study, and exhibition of all things connected with the anthropology of the indigenous peoples of North, South, and Central America, as well as expanded opportunities for American Indian people to work with the materials of their own culture,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Heye Foundation and the Institution understand and agree as follows:

[[underline]] First. [[/underline]] Subject to the provisions and conditions hereinafter expressed, the Heye Foundation hereby agrees to transfer and deliver its entire collection of books, objects, and works of art as listed in the schedules attached hereto; its endowment; and all other property, excluding the exhibition facility at 3753 Broadway, New York, New York (herein called "Audubon Terrace") to the Institution; and the Institution hereby agrees to accept said property from the Heye Foundation for the following uses and purposes:

A. to collect, preserve, study, and exhibit all things connected with the anthropology of the
