the Museum.

(c) The Board of Trustees shall
(1) designate a chairman from among its members;
(2) adopt bylaws to carry out its functions; and
(3) report annually to the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution on matters within its discretion.
(d) The initial Board of Trustees shall be composed of twenty-five members as follows:
(1) the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution and an Assistant Secretary, who shall serve as [[underlined]] ex officio [[/underlined]] members;
(2) fifteen members of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of the American Indian, Heye Foundation; and
(3) eight other members appointed by the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution.
Those members serving under subsections (c) (2) and (c) (3) of this section shall serve a three-year term.
(e) Successors to those members of the Board of Trustees serving under subsections (d) (2) and (d) (3) of this section shall be appointed by the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution from a slate nominated by the Board of Trustees which shall include in its nominations American Indians, Alaska Natives, and scholars in the fields of American Indian history and culture. The terms of successors to the initial Board of Trustees shall expire, as designated by the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution at the time of appointment on nomination by the Board of Trustees, one-third at the end of
