Letters from Alice to Aunt Carrie.  Something has happened.  She has broken with Mlle Rougier & is coming to America.

In a rage!  What right has Alice to complain with such extraordinary gifts in her person & talents.

Nov. 4  Sat. morning. Lunch at Mrs. Dolliver's with Grandma & Aunty.

my life, if Alice could break with Jean Rougier what could she ever find stable in this world.

Wrote her an awful letter on the cars & telegraphed her not to come.

At Mrs. Dolliver's the conversation fell upon a Miss Tibitts who had treated the family disgracefully & was extraordinarily gifted & adored by Mrs. Dolliver's sister.  

It mady my hair rise! Grandma delighting in it & thinking most evidently of Alice.

At supper telegramme from Alice saying she had sailed, sick.  Father angry and forbidding us to 'invite her' to the house or aid her in any way.

Went to bed about dead

Father packed up to go West.
