Moritz Richard Schomburgk (5 October 1811 – 24 March 1891) Between 1835 and 1839 he made three journeys to inland Guyana and on through Venezuela, tracing the Essequibo River to its source and surveying areas neglected during Alexander von Humboldt’s earlier explorations of the upper Orinoco River.
