-xv- in its East Court, together with renovation of space and replacement of systems throughout the existing structure. The new construction is estimated at $30 million and the renovation at $116.3 million. At its recent meeting the Audit and Review Committee examined this proposal in detail and endorsed it. The Institution has authority for the renovation, and appropriations have been provided and budgeted for it. The Smithsonian's fiscal year 1991 request includes $1.5 million for planning of the East Court construction, for which specific authority is required. The following motion was approved: VOTED that the Board of Regents requests its Congressional members to introduce and support legislation to provide authority for construction of new space in the East Court of the Natural History Building. [[underlined]] PROPOSAL TO NAME THE NATIONAL ZOO'S ELEPHANT HOUSE FOR THEODORE H. REED [[/underlined]] VOTED that the Board of Regents, with deep affection and respect, and in recognition of his efforts to transform the National Zoo into the preeminent zoological park it is today, proudly renames the Zoo's Elephant House the Theodore H. Reed Large Mammal Exhibit. [[underlined]] PROPOSED HENRY MEDAL FOR AUGUST HECKSCHER [[/underlined]] VOTED that the Board of Regents awards the Henry Medal to August Heckscher in recognition of his great service and dedicated friendship to the Smithsonian Institution and to the Cooper-Hewitt National Museum of Design. [[underlined]] APPOINTMENTS AND REAPPOINTMENTS TO SMITHSONIAN BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS [[/underlined]] VOTED that in accordance with Public Law 95-414 the Board of Regents reappoints to the Commission of the National Museum of African Art John A. Friede, James L. Hudson and Frieda Rosenthal, and appoints Brian C. Leyden and Michael L. Lomax to terms expiring December 31, 1992. VOTED that in accordance with Public Law 87-443 the Board of Regents reappoints Dr. Frank Stanton to the Commission of the National Portrait Gallery, for a term ending in December 1995. VOTED that the Board of Regents reappoints to the Commission of the National Museum of American Art Margaret Dodge Garrett and Wilbur L. Ross, Jr. and appoints Edwin I. Colodny, Rita R. Fraad, and Richard J. Schwartz to terms expiring December 31, 1993.
