plantation house which is on the National Historical Register and has a view of the water over the Smithsonian's parcel. The Maryland Historical Trust holds an easement over the Smithsonian parcel and it is zoned open space. The Tulip Hill heirs have requested that the Smithsonian sell this parcel to them at its appraised fair market value. An agreement to sell this property would be favorably received by the local community and would proved monies for urgently needed watershed land protection. Therefore, the following motion is suggested:

VOTED that the Board of Regents authorizes the Secretary to arrange for the sale of approximately 65 acres from the Murray property at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, with the understanding that the sale will be consummated only after consideration of appraisals and final terms by the Chairman of the Executive Committee.
