[[underlined]] REGENTS' DINNER [[/underlined]]

The traditional Regents' Dinner was held in the Milestones of Flight Gallery of the National Air and Space Museum on the preceding evening, Sunday, September 16, 1990. It was preceded by a reception hosted by the Vice President and Mrs. Quayle at their home for the Regents, the Secretary, and representatives of the Corporate Associate Program. After guests were seated at dinner, the Chancellor welcomed the Regents, their guests, and the staff and introduced the Secretary. Mr. Adams spoke briefly, touching upon the importance of the Institution´s partnership with corporate America, especially under current economic and fiscal conditions. He recognized two special guests, Regent Emeritus Lindy Boggs and Senator James McClure, whose dedication to and support of the Smithsonian will be sorely missed on Capitol Hill upon their retirement. The Secretary also acknowledged the presence of several staff who have assumed new roles: Acting Under Secretary Suttenfield, Director of the National Museum of the American Indian W. Richard West, Jr., and Director of the Archives of American Art Richard J. Wattenmaker.
