The illustration in Figure 4 (below) provides a three-year overview of the Smithsonian's Federal operating and capital budgets.  The request to OMB for fiscal year 1993 funding includes the capital improvement projects that were a part of the Five-Year Prospectus that the Board approved on February 4, 1991.  Among some of the larger projects that were included in the construction account are, for example, funds for the refurbishment of the Old General Post Office Building, the design of the Air and Space Museum extension, the completion of the East Court Building in the Museum of Natural History, and continued planning and design work for the Museum of the American Indian (both the Mall museum facility and the collection facility in Suitland).
