Vin Fiz Special Train.

Mr.R.H.Wallace,

G.P.A. New York.

Dear Sir:-

Referring to my letter of the 25th ulto.from Salamanca.

I am enclosing herewith the log of the Vin Fiz special train from Salamanca September 25th,up to the time I left the train at Hammond,Ind.on the morning of October 7th. All of the Vin Fiz party left the train at Hammond, except Mr. Benell and the mechanicians, and went into Chicago Thursday night,October 5th. The wind was so strong all day Friday and Saturday morning,October 5th and 6th,that a flight was impossible. On Saturday morning,Mr.Benell told me there was no necessity of my remaining with the special any longer;I therefore issued a party ticket from Hammond to Chicago, arranged for the yard master to furnish Mr.Benell with a crew on two hours notice and went into Chicago Saturday afternoon. On arriving there, went to the Armour City Office where I met Messrs.Davidson,General Manager of the Vin Fiz Co. Merritt, head of the Advertising Department of Amour & Co.,and Smithers of the Auditing Department. These three gentlemen had been on the special train and advised me with that service given them by the Erie Railroad was satisfactory in every respect. Mr.Merritt then introduced me to Mr.J.Ogden Armour who confirmed their statements regarding the service of the Erie Railroad.

I also enclose herewith Mr.Benell's receipt for the special train from Jersey City to Chicago, also the stubs of tickets, form SP.5 L.Nos.7580l to 758l0 inclusive, together with tickets, form SP.5.L.Nos.758ll to 75820 inclusive.

The Operating Department during the entire trip was very prompt to grant all requests made on them, the best of crews were furnished, the telegraph service was good, and it is thought that the service of the Erie Railroad on this occasion was such, that the Armour interests will have no complaints whatever.

Very truly,

H/S Division Passenger Agent.
