[[underlined]] July 29 [[/underlined]] 1911.

Bitterroot Valley, Montana.

Left Corvallis at 10 AM and took train for Woodside 17 miles up the valley to Bean's Spur, the nearest point to Como Lake. Took blanket, traps, gun and grub for a 4 days trip in the mts. Walked up 4 miles to Como lake, then along the north side of the lake to its head, about 3 miles, then up the brush canyon bottom probably 4 mile farther and camped in a beaver meadow by the creek. The trail goes on the south side of the lake, and we had a rough trip over rocks along the north shore, then a slow scramble through brush up the creek bottom on bear & elk trails. The horse trail which has not been used this season & is full of down trees runs along the side of the canyon for its lower part and we did not strike it.
