While we were flying at Dayton, Foulois and the Curtiss contingent - Beck, Walker, and Kelly - had been operating at Fort Sam Houston, Tex. Kelly was tailed in on airplane accident on May 10th, Walker after one flight asked [[strikethrough]] for [[/strikethrough]]to be relieved and Beck was ordered to College Park. Foulois, who had made some excellent reconnaissance flights during the spring, was ordered to duty with the National Guard in Washington. The Curtiss plane was shipped to College Park, the Wright plane was sent to Dayton to be rebuilt and is now displayed as the first Army airplane in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington.

Suddenly I felt the machine slackening in speed and turned quickly to Burgess and asked him to put the machine in a glide. Unfortunately I was too late and we went into a stall - sliding off on the right wing which was crushed when hitting the ground but it broke our fall and we were cut by the brace wires but otherwise unhurt. The machine was returned to the factory, rebuilt and about a month later was again tested and accepted.
