By the year 1914 all airplanes being used were of the tractor type - either the Burgess, the Curtiss or Glenn Martin. All of the old time pusher planes had been [[strikethrough]]don[[/strikethrough]]condemned and were no longer in use. 
With the growing importance of aviation/brought about by the War in Europe, the pioneering days of the aviation school were over. The Army had an excellent location and excellent school in the establishment at North Island. It [[strikethrough]]contained[[/strikethrough]]continued to grow in importance and size until our entry into the war in 1917 which brought about the great expansion of our aviation establishment. Histories recording of this [[strikethrough]]groth[[/strikethrough]]growth are in the official archives of the War Department.
