frequent checking especially just previous to an inter-island flight. The swinging base should be extended sufficiently to accommodate Martin Bombers.

Since the air force in the islands cannot operate effectively without the best navigation equipment, it is recommended that the Engineering Division furnish the latest instruments to this Field for actual service test, as soon as they have completed the simulated service tests. In other words, this station could be considered a navigation proving station. The results of the real service tests would be reported to the Engineering Division. Such a scheme, it is thought, would overcome the tendency to become out-of-date, arouse a keener interest in the real flying problems involved in over-water operations, and increase the general efficiency of the station.
