flying at extremely low altitudes, the plane endeavored to obtain the line after a raid the enemy conducted when the 77th U.S. Division relieved the 42nd. A large number of exercises with the Infantry and Artillery were carried out. Then the 12th withdrew and re-joined the 1st and 88th in the Chateau-Thierry action.
  The 99th [[?]] arrived at Luxeuil-les-Bains, Baccarat sector about July 2nd and, with the exception of the 3rd Flight in the Vosges, operated here and until its first entrance into a big offensive, at St. Mihiel.

ARMY OBSERVATION
  The 91st Squadron was actually the first American aero squadron to arrive in the zone of advance, on December 14th, 1917, and was stationed near Amanty for the purpose of receiving equipment and carrying out training. At this time the personnel included no flying officers. On February 24, 1918, however, there were twenty pilots, including the Commanding Officer, who took command on this date. Until its equipment of Salmsons (260 Salmsons) on April 24, the pilots were given training in observation work by piloting students of the 1st Corps Observation Training Center
