It was not until June 6th that the C.O. reported the squadron ready for duty and as the same day the C.A.S. of the 8th French Army, through the C.A.S. 1st Corps, U.S., directed the Squadron to perform certain visual and photographic reconnaissances and adjustment of fire. The inactivity of the Artillery was great and a later order limited the work to pure reconnaissance.

On June 7th, the initial visual reconnaissance over enemy territory was carried out, with planes from the 1st Pursuit Group for protection. On August 10, the 91st was assigned to the 1st American Army and from then until the St. Mihiel action carried out all our army observation.

On August 23, the 24th Army Observation Squadron arrived at Gondreville with Salmson planes. The 9th Night Reconnaissance Squadron (a Breguet unit) located at Amanty, neither did service flying until the St. Mihiel offensive.

On September 6th, the 91st and 24th Army Observation Squadrons and the 9th Night Reconnaissance Squadron were organized into the 1st Army
