as calculated. But supposing even that my calculations have been made to favorably, the difference between the real speed of the balloon and the calculated speed cannot be great, which is to be favored as follows.

According to [[?]] table the resistance of the wind decreased in square proportion, when the speed is decreasing in single proportion & therefore the power of the gas-engine in [[?]] proportion by a decrease of single proportion of the speed of the balloon; supposing therefore the power of the Gas-engine should not be sufficient to give the balloon the calculated speed of 16 feet a second it certainly would be sufficient for a speed or few feet less say 12 feet & as the success of the balloon does not depend on its speed a few more or less, the calculations will certainly be near enough.
