I imagine it was done in oils. [[strikethrough]] It [[/strikethrough]] ^[[The velvet piece]] hung on a pretty wooden rod, at each end [[strikethrough]] it had [[/strikethrough]] a cord attached ^[[was attached to the rod and]] [[strikethrough]] to it with [[/strikethrough]] a bow ^[[was made in the middle of the cord.]] ^[[image - drawing of the rod with cords and painting below]] Some of mother's friends were musical so they formed a little group of musicians. Mother played the violin. I understand that she was a very good violinist. When we moved to D.C., we brought the violin with us. Some one borrowed it, mother and I [[strikethrough]] didn't [[/strikethrough]] ^[[don't]] think that it was the same violin that she had when she played in Columbus. Of course after she married and had us ^[[four,]] she didn't have much time for playing the violin. The men had their social clubs also. My father was a member of ^[[one of]] the social club^[[s.]] His club was called Isonomy Social Club. The club represented the elite of the colored men in Columbus, Georgia. That name means the equality before the law. No doubt the meaning really means the right people. I have two invitations of the Isonomy. They are ^[[to me]] beautiful.
