CONGRESSWOMAN SHIRLEY CHISHOLM
A former teacher, social worker and civic worker of indefatiguable drive and conquest, Shirley Chisholm of Brooklyn, New York later added new laurels to her many community accomplishments when the voters of her district selected her and elected her their first female representative in the New York State Senate.

Serving in that body with distinction and aplomb, Mrs. Chisholm acquired the reputation of a Senator's Senator for her humane approach to legislation and the writing and execution of same.

Further honors were bestowed upon her when the voters of the State of New York voted her in as a National Committee woman to the National Democratic Party at their Convention in Chicago in 1968.

Mrs. Chisholm returned to her Borough of Brooklyn to engage in a political campaign which resulted in her winning a smashing victory to become the first lady of her race to enter into the hallowed halls of the United States Congress.
