National Secretary Lillian Benbow has just returned from a meeting with members of the Berkeley (Bay Area) Council and hotel management with reference to the 41st Annual NPHC Convention. Final plans are being put on paper and all National Affiliate Organizations and Local Councils are urged to make preparations for this meeting.

FRIDAY, March 28th—1 P.M. Executive Board meets. This includes National Officers plus the three (3) national representatives of each of the eight (8) national member organizations.

SATURDAY, March 29th—9 A.M. General Sessions. Each Local Council is entitled to and urged to have one (1) official delegate present. Visitors from all councils and national organizations are encouraged and by payment of the registration fee for the Convention may partake in all convention activities. The Host Council is planning a dance for Saturday evening.

Theme of the Convention is: "Strengthening the National Pan-Hellenic Council." We shall have 45 minute discussions in four areas: Jurisdiction, Housing, Social Action and Constitution.

Hotel Headquarters will be—
Berkeley House Motor Hotel
920 University Avenue
Berkeley, California 94710

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated meets in convention once each year, at which time such policies as are needed are agreed upon for submission to the affiliate organizations for ratification. Once the policies are adopted by a majority of the affiliate organizations, these policies become binding on the member organizations and their local chapters. It is desirable that the National President and the appropriate staff person from each of the affiliate organizations be two of the three chosen representatives, for each organization must support and require compliance by its own chapters of any policies Pan-Hellenic may adopt for these policies to be effective.

It is the responsibility of each member organization to require its chapters to comply with those standards and policies agreed upon by the member organizations.

The Council serves as a forum for the discussion of other common problems; however, there is respect for autonomy of each organization represented.

Sororities and fraternities exist on any college or university campus at the pleasure of the college or university administration. It is important that these groups make a positive contribution to the campus life; a contribution that students would not have the opportunity to make in any other way.
