Negroes Fear Postal Job Losses
Scripps-Howard Staff Writer

Leaders of the predominantly Negro National Alliance of Postal and Federal Employees charged today an estimated 00,000 black jobs will be lost in the Postal Service over the next three years under present policies designed to improve mail handling efficiency.

Wesley Young, Alliance vice president, blamed the expected losses on several factors including movement of postal facilities from the central cities to the suburbs and normal attrition as the Postal Service cuts its force from 750,000 to around 500,000.

Young said 60 percent of the jobs lost thru attrition and consolidation the Postal Service's 15 regions had been held by blacks -- the fact? Negroes hold only slightly than 19 per cent of the total in the service.

'Disaster' Feared
"This going to be a disaster for the negro and for the country," Mr. Young charged. "The Postal Service long has been a problem where Negroes who were denied job in the private sector could earn a decent living.
