Some Tournament Events Are Washed Out by Storm

Sixteen year old Joey Mitchell 3rd successfully defended one championship at the Oak Bluffs Tennis Club by defeating Tony Santio in the men's singles 6-2, 6-3, but was halted in his quest for a repeat victory with his partner Jan Cable in the mixed doubles by tropical storm, Carrie, which washed out the Sunday matches.

Barbara Loatman, last year's, champion in the women's singles won again this year, beating Debbie Shaw 7-6, 6-3, and then teamed with Mrs. Shaw in the women's doubles to win the Miller Hi Life trophies by beating Ann Funn and Jan Cable in the finals, 6-0, 6-3.

In the men's doubles Bob Shaw and Hilton Davis Jr. had a tough time disposing of Fred Jones and Bill King in the first set, winning 6-4 but easily won the championship as they took the second set 6-1.

On Labor Day most of the matches except the finals were run off in pro-sets, whereby the first one to win 10 games with at least a two-game advantage was declared a winner. Despite this effort to speed up
