HOUSING

The National Urban League Development Foundation has 4,000 units of new construction either completed or underway in 15 cities. It arranged for approximately $75 million in mortgages, most of which went through black professionals, to be made available to minority families.

The Housing Division is working with HUD in its housing allowance experiment whereby 10,000 low and moderate income families will receive money for their housing needs and counselling services to ensure that they are not taken advantage of.

Urban Renewal Demonstration Project provides technical assistance to community groups so they may have a voice in the planning and execution of renewal projects.

HEALTH CARE

Top priority is being given to closing the gap between health services available to the black and poor and those available to the rest of the population. To that end...

■ The Urban League staff provides technical assistance to HEW funded Neighborhood Centers in 5 cities to help them improve available services and to become better integrated into the local community health system.

■ The National Consumer Health Education and Training Program has trained more than 500 minority consumers in the skills necessary to serve on local hospital, medical and comprehensive health planning boards.

■ The Health Division is providing technical assistance to 8 black colleges which are developing or expanding their allied health curricula.
