Payton and Johnson, along with the other 20 members
of the All-American team, were also presented plaques in
honor of their selection at the luncheon.
  Grambling College, which has produced many excellent
professional football players through the years, placed three
other members of the Brambling team with Johnson among
the All-Americans. They include wide receiver Sammy White,
guard Andrew Jackson and defensive deep back James
Hunter.
  Joining Payton from Jackson State was linebacking
teammate Robert Brazile.
  Tuskegee Institute sent three representatives: tight
end Robert Cook, tackle Emanuel McGhee and linebacker 
Richard Harkins. Guard Herb Scott and deep back Anthony
Leonard represented Virginia Union University.
  James Rackley, a running back, and deep back Felix 
Williams, were also teamed at Florida A & M this year. Hold-
ing down offensive tackle positions were Jerry Dismuke
(Alcorn A & M) and Moses Trotter (Norfolk State College).
  Offensive center is Elizabeth City State University's
John Brooks while quarterbacking is Parnell Dickinson of
Mississippi Valley State College. Robert Hammond, of Mor-
gan State College, was selected as one of the running backs.
  Defensive ends are Charles Smith of North Carolina
Central College and Cleveland Elam of Tennessee State Uni-
versity. Holding down the middle guard spot is Winston-
Salem State College's Bennie Barbour and rounding out the
22 black All-America squad is deep back Eugene Hunter
from Fort Balley State University.
