Dr. Delano Meriweather, Special Assistant to Dr. Theodore Cooper, Acting Secretary For Health, U.S. Department Health Education and Welfare.

It is an honor for me to have the chance to personally indicate the continued support of the federal government in Morehouse's effort and in the general support of medical education. I congratulate Morehouse College, the new Dean, and his family.

Dr. Nelson McGhee, President, Atlanta Medical Association

We have been cooperative from the outset of this program and the Executive Board pledges its support in whatever efforts you take.

No one knows the need for black physicians in the state more than I. I was born in Georgia, practiced in Gainesville, Georgia, Hall County, and Buford, Georgia on up to the South Carolina line for five years, being the only black physician in that area. It is a tremendous problem. And with Morehouse undertaking this yeoman's effort, we would hope that situations such as this would not exist in the future.

Lt. Gov. Zell Miller, State of Georgia

Let me say that it is an honor to be here on behalf of the State of Georgia for this very historical occasion. We on a state level look forward to working with Dr. Sullivan and the Morehouse administration.

I am going to appoint a special committee in the Senate made up of the Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Chairman of the Higher Education Committee, and Chairman of the Human Resources Committee, as well as Senator Julian Bond and Senator Horace Tate to see what specific proposals can be made to offer state assistance.

Senator Herman Talmadge, State of Georgia
