For generations Black Americans have come to realize and appreciate the power of the spoken word. Historically our Black leaders were outstanding orators who, through the persuasive power of their skillful oratory, changed attitudes and laws.

NBC salutes these outstanding Black communicators, and looks forward to a new generation of Black Americans to build upon this unique heritage. We, too, understand the tremendous power of the spoken word — to inform, to entertain and to effect meaningful social change.
