Beautiful Skin

Very few women can take a healthy, glowing complexion for granted. Most have to work a little toward smooth, soft skin, especially during hectic days of travel.

Number one enemy to a dewy complexion is dry skin. To keep your skin elastic and healthy looking it has to maintain its moisture balance. Once the moisture balance in your skin drops below 10%, dry skin is on its way.

To keep your skin soft and silky, natural oils on the outside act as guards to lock in moisture. However, through exposure to wind, sun and improper skin care these oils sometimes are removed and moisture evaporates. The result of this moisture loss can be dry flaky skin, and dry skin invites those fine lines because the skin is not elastic enough to hold bounce back.

To restore glow to your complexion, plan to include a simple routine into your grooming habits. If you find it relaxing to take a bubble bath after a long hectic day, this can be the perfect time to try out the following unique moisturizing method. It takes about fifteen minutes and is well worth every minute of it.

You start by warming a teaspoon of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly by resting it over a bowl of very hot water. Heat a small towel at the same time.

While the petroleum jelly warms, cleanse the skin thoroughly. Every last smidgeon of makeup and grime should be removed from the face and throat. Then apply the comfortably warm Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. Smooth it in with light upward strokes.

Now bury your face in the hot towel and relax for a few moments. Ten or fifteen minutes allows the petroleum jelly to do its moisturizing job and that's time enough for a refreshing, soothing bubble bath.

After your bath, remove the towel and tissue off any excess petroleum jelly. The sheer coating of lubricant that remains will protect the skin from moisture loss and give it a soft feel and radiant glow.

Portable Beauty

America has evolved into a society where the good life is synonymous with leisure and travel. Americans are traveling year round and many women have discovered how important it is to continue their beauty regime while away from home. The skin care experts at the Pond's Beauty Institute have some practical ideas for your travels on what and how to pack when it comes to health and beauty products; and what to do when you arrive, depending on climate and the type of trip.

Traveling can be a pleasure if you're well organized, so, even before you start packing, make a list of all essentials. That way, no beauty products, toiletries, or medications will be left out.

An ideal way to pack is to use three plastic-lined traveling kits. You'll have a special place for everything, and you won't have to unpack the "works" at one time.

Kit one is for your carry along case and should include essentials you use every day - such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, makeup, perfume, vitamins, and skin care products. When packing makeup, one set is all you need, since your basic daytime makeup can be easily turned into a glamorous evening look by intensifying colors. Count out vitamins and other pills you might need to match the length of your trip. If you transfer containers - preferably to light-weight plastic bottles - be sure to label each one.

Other items, such as shampoos and conditioners, also can be transferred to plastic containers. These are likely items for kit two. Kit two also should include products that you might not use daily, and can be carried in your suitcase. It might hold curlers, your razor, and a first aid kit.

Kit three is your specialty kit and can go in your suitcase as well. It should hold what you need for the particular place where you're going. For exampple, sun lotions and eye drops for sun, sea and sailing - salt pills for extreme heat - insect repellent if called for. To make traveling even more pleasurable, you might want to add your favorite tea, and maybe some sticks of incense to scent your hotel room.

While traveling, continue your normal beauty routine - but, take heed of special conditions. If you're traveling by plane, remember that long hours of jet travel has a drying effect on skin. Extra moisturizing is called for even on the way. A natural moisturizer such as Pond's Light Whipped Moisturizer is ideal because of its non-greasy texture - and, it's so easy to pack and carry with its unbreakable bottle.

If your destination is to be a dry climate, continue with generous amounts of moisturizer. Pay particular attention to the delicate under-eye area where lines from dryness can develop fastest!

Wherever you travel, check such details as water quality. In many large cities, for instance, water is hard and [[cutoff]] cause skin to flake. In addition, city soot and dirt can raise havoc with your complexion.

So, after a long day of sightseeing, treat yourself to a relaxing beauty routine. Clean your face with a gentle, deep-down cleanser such as Pond's Cold Cream to whisk away dirt and grime and keep skin fresh and clean. Then, apply moisturizer.

When traveling to tropical climes, other precautions should be taken. Old salts will agree that a dip in the frothy sea is refreshing, but women with sensitive skin should wash off salt as soon as possible to avoid irritation.

Winter traveling to colder climates brings other problems. Plummeting temperatures are usually accompanied by dry air, and even oily skin types can find their complexions chapped and irritated. In addition, cold winds blow away the tiny drops of moisture normally present on skin's surface, leaving it dry and flaky.

One of the most important steps for skin in cold climates is moisturizing for protection from the elements. Moisturizer should be applied to eyelids delicately. Also, apply extra moisturizer to lips, elbows, knees and heels which can become especially dry in cold climates. And, don't forget your sun goggles. Squinting because of the bright glare of snow can cause tiny lines to form around your eyes.

This year, avoid the travelers "beauty blues" with a well-planned beauty routine and conscientious beauty regimen when you arrive.
