Gwendolyn Hill's Family:
Three generations working and growing with the Bell System.

"Work was hard to find back in 1933. My Aunt Hazel and I felt pretty lucky when we got those jobs as elevator operators at the old phone company building on Forest Avenue, here in Portland, Maine.

"I loved working around people. I passed that love on to my daughter, Mary Jane. Today, she works at my old building as a repair service assistant.

"Her husband, Leonard Cummings, is a Bell employee too - nearly 17 years with the company. He's a supervisor in equipment installation.

"Leonard's nephew, Richard, works with the phone company in Boston. He's a central office technician in the Back Bay section.

"In a way, I'm still with New England Telephone with my own little business. I supply custodial services at the Phone Center Store downtown. So, the company I once worked for is now my customer.

"Three generations of our family with the same company. That's quite a record! One that I'm very proud of."
