The learning process of science continues to fascinate youngsters...whether it be within the walls of a traditional schoolroom setting, or the open spaces of barren or wooded lands, or by the endless mural of a river or ocean.

Some of the best science education continues to happen outside the classroom.

Miram Buckland takes her sixth-graders to their neighborhood beach to learn about science. There they study the secrets of nature such as marine ecosystems, local archaeology and ecology in her specially developed Land and Sea Lab.

A teacher at K.T. Murphy School in Stamford, Connecticut, Miram was recognized for her unusual approach to science education when CIBA-GEIGY Corporation presented her with its Exemplary Elementary Science Teaching Award in 1979.

As a research-oriented chemical company, CIBA-GEIGY supports a wide variety of science education programs for students of all ages and backgrounds.

Our goal for these programs is the same- to prepare a generation of scientists for the future.

In her Land and Sea Lab, Miram Buckland is helping to make that possible.
