More effort should also be made to do business with minority-owned banks and insurance companies which, in turn, will be better able to assist in the growth of minority-owned businesses, Barzelay asserted.

Barzelay, in his keynote address at the April 1980 affair, also urged corporate leaders to look more closely at the potential of MESBICs, describing the Minority Enterprise Small Business Investment Companies as "one of the most effective" of all tools to broaden the participation of big business in the minority enterprise sector. General Foods has operated its own MESBIC, North Street Capital Corporation, for 10 years.
