A Permanent Record of Excellence

In the past century, scores of black scientists have made significant and far-reaching contributions to science and medicine in the United States. But only a handful of them have received the credit and recognition they justly deserve.

To help acquaint the general public with the achievements of some exceptional scientists, CIBA-GEIGY Corporation introduced the Exceptional Black Scientists Poster Series in 1980.

The initial series honored chemist Percy Julian and physicians Charles Drew and Jane Wright. The second series honors anatomist and medical educator W. Montague Cobb, theoretical physicist Shirley Jackson, and biological researcher Ernest Everett Just.

The posters were painted by noted black artist and illustrator Ernest Crichlow and contain brief biographical sketches outlining the achievements and contributions of these exceptional individuals.

By portraying their achievements on posters, CIBA-GEIGY hopes to encourage more black men and women to enter science and medicine.

The large four-color posters are available, free of charge, to high schools, colleges, civic organizations and other interested individuals and groups throughout the country.

If you'd like a set of these posters write to the Corporate Relations Department of CIBA-GEIGY - and have your own record of the achievements of these six Exceptional Black Scientists.
