COMMENTS BY THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT, MARY E. SINGLETARY

BLACKS, WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

AS WE ENTER INTO THE DECADE OF THE 80'S, IT IS APPARENT THAT AS BLACKS WE ARE STILL STRUGGLING AND TRYING TO SURVIVE IN TODAY'S SOCIETY.

BLACK ORGANIZATIONS HAVE THE CHALLENGE AND OPPORTUNITY TO SET THE STANDARDS AND THE PACE FOR WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE.

WE RECOGNIZE THAT THE ORGANIZATION HAS MADE MANY NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS; YET, IN SPITE OF OUR MANY STRUGGLES FOR FREEDOM IN ALL FACETS OF OUR LIVES, WE ARE NOT FREE. BECAUSE WE ARE NOT FREE, AND BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THAT THE EQUALITY OF RIGHTS IN THIS SOCIETY IS THE BIRTH RIGHT OF OUR BLACK BROTHERS AND SISTERS, NOT ONE OF US CAN AFFORD THE LUXURY OF SITTING BACK OR RELAXING FROM THOSE ISSUES THAT EFFECT THE WELL-BEING OF OUR PEOPLE. IT IS ONLY THROUGH OUR DEDICATION TO THE IDEALS WE SET THAT WE CAN EASE THE PAIN OF HUMAN DESPAIR IN OUR COMMUNITIES.

AS WE START A NEW DECADE TOGETHER, LET IT BE WITH RENEWED VIGOR AND COMMITMENT. SHARE OUR THEME "REALITIES FOR WOMEN IN THE NEW DECADE" -- WORKING TOGETHER TOWARD THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR FULL POTENTIAL. IN THE SPIRIT OF THIS ERA OF HUMAN EVOLUTION OF EQUALITY, DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE FOR ALL, LET US DEVELOP A NETWORK ACROSS THE COUNTRY WITH ONE SINGLE THOUGHT -- "WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE."

WITH THIS THOUGHT -- ARE YOU READY FOR THE QUESTION -- BLACKS WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
