TRAVEL TIPS
FROM EASTERN AIRLINES
By: Charles E. Wright, Manager-Market Development

This time of year, many of you are making plans to attend your national conventions. Great, because it is never too early to plan to go somewhere. Travel is one of the most exciting pastimes there is and black consumers like yourselves are doing it more and more with style.
Since inflation and erosion have eroded our buying power, there are a few things that you can do to save your time and money and to get the most out of that trip.
First of all, plan ahead-way ahead. Whether you are going to a convention or on vacation, purchasing airline tickets way in advance can be a big money saver. Air fares have risen 25 to 35 percent a year for the past two years. Since Eastern and most of the other airlines guarantee the price of a ticket once it is purchased, a ticket purchased three or four months in advance is like getting a 10 to 15 percent discount. Also, hotels will have a wider range of prices and types of accommodations available. That "oceanfront room" in St. Thomas will be gone if you wait until the last minute.
Secondly, try to combine that convention or business trip with pleasure or personal travel. Eastern Airlines has an air fare that you may have heard about, but have not yet tried. It is called the Unlimited Mileage fare. Besides being one of the best travel values in existence today, it is well suited for combining trips of from one to three week duration. When at least two people travel together for the entire trip, you can visit as many of Eastern Airlines' 107 cities as you like. This fare will save you money if you enjoy travel. Please call your travel agent or Eastern for details.
Next, invest in good luggage. It will be worth the money in the long run. Bags should not be picked so much for their decorative features as for their durability. Good, durable luggage will last for years in most cases. Also, it is a good idea to travel light, but when it is not possible, put items such as medicine, perfume, eye glasses and other such personal items in your carry-on luggage.
One final tip. Even though the people who live in the islands are friendly and courteous, you will find that a response in kind to them will get you information that will enhance your trip. The people at Eastern's destinations in the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Bermuda will show you a fantastic time. They will show you the exciting night life in Nassau, the most romantic beach in Montego Bay, the best shops in St. Thomas, the good places to buy art in Haiti, whereto get good conch salad in Freeport, and where the people party in Barbados.
Well, if you are excited and ready to go, we are as close as your phone. I will see many of you at your conventions in Miami, New Orleans, Atlanta, Detroit, Cleveland, Washington, New York, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Denver this year. By the way, we fly to all those places and you will find that our "Eastern Family" will be there to assist you with your travel needs. After all, we have to earn our wings every day.

Welcome to ATLANTA

HARTSFIELD ATLANTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT-In September 1980, Atlanta opens the largest passenger terminal complex in the world, just one mile (or 1 1/2 kilometers) from the present terminal. Its connected North and South Terminal buildings, four domestic concourses, International Terminal and concourse initially can handle 55 million passengers a year. Currently, the airport accommodates 42 million, making it the second busiest in the world. A subterranean transportation mall includes an automated transit system that will move a projected 250,000 people per year between terminals and concourses (1.1 miles or 1.7 kilometers) in less than five minutes.
