Born and raised in Quincy, Mass., Mrs. Nash was the last child born to Antonie and Carrie Teixeira. Her father was born in Cape Verde and her mother was born in the U.S.

Her talent in the visual arts emerged during junior high school and continued studies in art at Howard University, "under the influence and guidance of some of America's most well-known Afro-American artists and aestheticians.

She married Robert J. Nash, a Howard University graduate in architecture, and the young couple moved to Lagos, Nigeria in the early 1950s where Mr. Nash designed schools and residences that made use of locally produced materials.

The first child, Robyn Bandele, was born in Africa and their other two children, Carolyn and Steven were born when the Nash family returned to the U.S.

Fourteen years after leaving the Howard University campus, Mrs. Nash returned to take a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a masters in  painting and graphics.

In 1970, with artist Ron Anderson, Mrs. Nash founded the ANTX-HILL Workshop dedicated to providing resources for working artists.

Mrs. Nash is the director of the workshop and is also a research and management analyst for the National Endowment for the Arts.

Her works have been exhibited in galleries and museums in many cities, including the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., the Philadelphia Museum in Philadelphia, Pa. and at the 1977 Black and African Festival of the Arts and Culture in Lagos, Nigeria.

The Pan Helenic Council, a primary sponsor of the Harlem showing, is interested in providing "positive role models" for young people in the tri-state area.
