Judge Peggy Cooper Davis

Between receiving her Bachelor of Arts from Western College for Women and studying at New York Society of Freudian Psychologists, the Honorable Peggy Cooper Davis attended Barnard College and Harvard Law School from which she received her Juris Doctorate in 1968.

Her professional experience includes having been the Deputy Coordinator, office of the Deputy Mayor for Criminal Justice; a Professor of Law Rutgers University, School of Law; Assistant Counsel/co-Director Capital Punishment Project, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund; Law Clerk to Judge Robert L. Carter of the U.S. District Court; Staff Counsel, Community Action for Legal Services and Staff Counsel Williamsburg Legal Services.

Judge Davis served as Vice-Chairperson of the New York City Board of Corrections; Member of the Board of Directors New York Foundation and also Board member of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund.

At the present time the Honorable Peggy Cooper Davis is a Judge of the Family Court, to which she was appointed in 1980.

She is married to Parks Commissioner Davis and they are the parents of a daughter, Elizabeth.

ALEXIS M. HERMAN

Ms. Herman was Director of the Women's Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor from March 1977 to Jan. 1981. Under her leadership the Women's Bureau developed and managed outreach programs which increased women's employment opportunities in non-traditional jobs... As Director she represented the Department of Labor on official visits to Europe, Japan and South America. In April 1980 Ms. Herman served as Vice-Chairman of the Organization for Economics Cooperation and Development's Conference on the Employment of Women, held in Paris.

Upon graduating from Xavier University with a B.A. in Sociology she worked as a high school guidance counselor and developed School to Work Transition Programs for minority youth. As a result, she was named Alabama delegate to the White House Conference on Children and Youth in 1971.

Ms. Herman has received numerous awards for her outstanding contributions in the achievement of economic opportunities for Women, Youth and minorities.

DR. IRENE IMPELLIZZERI

Dr. Impellizzeri received successive degrees from New York University, Columbia Teachers College and Fordham University. Her teaching experience began in elementary and secondary schools, then on to the University level. She was Adjunct Professor at Brooklyn College also department Chairman at Brooklyn. Presently she is Dean of the School of Education at Brooklyn College.

As teacher, researcher, administrator, psychologist and social worker, she has crouded many changes and accomplishments into an intense professional career which has been people-oriented an school-oriented.

Dr. Impellizzeri has not only worked in the schools, but in the communities of Brooklyn and New York City. She has always been responsive to the urgencies of educational controversy, thus she choose specifically to work with the teachers in the troubled Bedford-Stuyvesant schools.

She was appointed to the Board of Education of the City of New York in February 1980.

MILLICENT MCGLASHAN

Mrs. McGlashan is the Area Director of Labor Relations for the Sheraton Hotels in New York City. She also holds the position of Director of Personnel. Her position involves directing labor relations for over 5000 employees. She deals with eight different unions, all of which are under one bargaining agreement.

She is a graduate of New York University, where she received her degree in Business Administration. She has completed numerous Courses in labor relations and personnel management. 

This Honoree was selected to be on the hotel task force for the City of New York labor market and to hold a key position on the Advisory Council for New York City... And with it all she finds time to speak to career groups and to help others through outreach and participation. 

Mrs. McGlashan resides on Long Island with her husband and four children.
